21, 2008 - Honoka`a, HI - The
2nd annual Parade and Festival
for the United Nations International
Peace Day marched through the
small town of Honoka`a at noon.
The parade was put together
by the Honoka`a Hongwanji Buddhist
Temple.
The parade was comprised of
over 40 groups with diverse
ethnic and social backgrounds,
all united by the common desire
to achieve peace. Bands, floats,
and even the "Jesse White
Tumbling Team" from Chicago,
joined in the procession down
Mamane Street.
Peace Day is observed all over
the world on Sunday, September
21st in the hopes of promoting
the values of "peace, compassion
and interdependence." Last
year, Governor Linda Lingle
declared the same date to be
Peace Day in Hawaii.
