Dignitaries
and faculty from the University of
Hawaii-Hilo gathered at the new College
of Pharmacy buildings, on Nolwelo
Street (opposite the landmark Imiloa
Astronomy Center) to bless the facility.
According to UH-Hilo, Phase 1 of the
College of Pharmacy plan called for
the construction of three buildings
on a four-acre parcel in the University
Park of Science and Technology on
Aohoku Place.
The university says the new facilities
will help the college meet its accreditation
requirements, while turning its attention
to the next phase, which is a permanent
home on the University of Hawaii at
Hilo campus. During the event, university
officials announced that Governor
Linda Lingle has released the necessary
funding for the next phase.
The UH-Hilo College of Pharmacy intends
to become the center of pharmaceutical
research, education, and patient care
services in the Asian Pacific Region.
Dr. John M. Pezzuto, Ph.D., the founding
dean of the College of Pharmacy, was
unhand to express his gratitude to
local state legislatures for helping
to move the project forward.
