The
Governor’s Council of Neighbor Island
Advisors for East Hawaii met in Keaau
on Monday evening to discuss the future
plans and projects slated to improve
Puna's roadways.
A representative from the state State
Highways Division of the Department
of Transportation gave an update on
the efforts being made to widen and
improve Highway 130.
Although the meeting was sparsely
attended by the public, the residents
who were there told the representative
and the council that they feel marginalized
in the district, and the needed infrastructure
improvements are taking too long to
get done.
According to Governor Linda Lingle's
office, the Councils of Neighbor Island
Advisors were created to give neighbor
island residents a stronger voice
in state government. The Governor’s
Council of Neighbor Island Advisors
for East Hawaii holds monthly public
meetings to seek community input,
advise the Governor of important issues
and make recommendations for State
boards and commissions.
The members of the Council are Julie
Hugo, Alton Okinaka, Norman Stahl,
Carol VanCamp, Albert Nakaji, Scott
Enright and Jennifer Zelko.
