The new $6.7 million Administration and Library building at Kealakehe Intermediate School in Kona was officially blessed and opened on Thursday.

The five year community effort culminated in a small dedication ceremony attended by Governor Linda Lingle, State Representatives Cindy Evans and Denny Coffman, and the school children of Kealakehe.

“Five years ago, as a freshman legislator, I fought to include funding in the state budget bill for Kealakehe Intermediate,” said Rep. Evans in a media release. “The school effectively made its case, first to the legislature to appropriate the money, then to the governor to release the funds. “

“The new facility is a welcome addition to the Kealakehe campus, providing a conducive learning environment, coupled with dedicated staff,” added Rep. Evans. “I am most grateful to the efforts by the teachers, staff, parents and students who helped make the vision a reality.”
