Hilo, Hawaii -It was standing room only in Hilo, as nearly a hundred residents packed in to support the Hawaii County Band, which has been put on the chopping block in the administration’s proposal.

Many band members, music lovers and appreciative residents pleaded with the council to keep the funding for the band intact, each in their own special way.

Former mayor Harry Kim also made a statement in support of the band.

The county will be holding a number of public meetings, each focused on a different administrative department, in the coming weeks, before voting on the budget.
