After the Hands Across the Sand demonstration, Moku O Hawaii’s Keaukaha Canoe Regatta got underway under blue skies along the Hilo bayfront.
Dominant Kai Opua, upset last week by the hosts of this week’s competition, reaffirmed their spot on top of Division A.
Puna finished runner up in the A Division.
Hui Wa‘a O Waiakea edged out Tui Tonga to win the B Division, tying the West Hawaii club with three regatta victories each.
Hilo Bay also will be the location of the next canoe regatta, sponsored by the Puna Canoe Club on July 3rd.
