July 5, 2010 – Hilo, Hawaii

Video by David Corrigan

Pyrotechntics thundered over Coconut Island on the 4th of July, lighting the Hilo Bayfront for miles.

For those watching the show at the Mooheau Bandstand, the Lehua Jaycees Fireworks Exhibition was given a patriotic soundtrack, thanks to the Hawaii County Band. In this video, the band’s version of the 1812 Overture was performed in synchronized coordination with the fireworks display.

The Bayfront Highway was closed from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. to allow for access onto the Bayfront shore for fireworks viewing. The Mooheau Park and Ball Field glittered with sparklers and glow apparel, as Hilo ohana enjoyed the Independence Day evening out in the open, without the frequent rains for which the windward city is known.
