A few hours later, the night sky over Kailua Bay lit up with a display by Hawaii Pyrotechnics and Explosives.
The county says the fireworks were made possible by of generous support from several local businesses, and major sponsors Big Island Honda and Kona Commons.
Hawaii County provided primary funding from its fireworks sales fees, and many other generous local businesses and individuals provided funding for both the parade and the fireworks.
