The 2010 Hawaii Horse Expo 2010 rode into town this weekend.

The event was held at the Waikoloa Stables in Waikoloa Village and also at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort.

Noted experts shared their knowledge in a variety of horse-related disciplines during the three days of clinics and demonstrations

The event also serves to raise awareness for abused and abandond horses on the island… and when in Waikoloa, that discussion includes the famous Waikoloa donkeys.

On Sunday, the Humane Society of the United States presented their latest findings on what might be done to manage the wild donkey herds, humanely and sustainably.

The current severe drought that has parched the leeward region has been pushing the herd closer to civilization, creating conflict with residents and endangering motorists on nearby highways as the animals search for water.

The donkeys were introduced to Hawaii years ago to help Kona coffee farmers harvest their crop, but have since become feral in the wilderness. As numbers grow and drought conditions persist, experts say the situation is critical.

The Hawaii Horse Expo wrapped up on Sunday. Proceeds from the event benefit the Hawaii Island Humane Society’s Horse Rescue Fund.

ALOHA I’m planning to move to the big island to buy a house , 1st I’m going to rent an apt. to use as my base camp to start my looking .

If & when I buy a house I think I would like to adopt a hourse , I spoke to someone who told me , they would NOT allow nayone to adopt a horse unless , they knew how to handle a horse , they told me IF you volentrer with the horse rescue , you will learn in time how to handle a horse , that sounded like a great plan to me .

For the life of me I can NOT understand how anybody could abuse a horse IF they don’t want the horse just give it to you guys I know you would be glad to take it off there hands .
