TPP Concerns Seem Distant, Yet Linked To Hawaii

HAWAII ISLAND – On Saturday, protesters lined the Queen Kaahumanu Highway outside the Waikoloa resort, where delegates were reported to be behind closed doors, negotiating the terms of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

This feature story explores what is known about the TPP – mostly gathered from document leaks – and how the proposed economic treaty has had a connection with Hawaii from the beginning.

It features Juliet Begley with the Americans for Democratic Action, Dr. Jane Kelsey from the University of Auckland in New Zealand, and Jim Albertini of the Malu ‘Aina Center For Non-violent Education & Action.

  1. TPP. Another global trade “liberalization” deal in which countries will eliminate trade “barriers” on outside imports. This was done in Mexico with NAFTA. The price of food plummeted as subsidized US farm good swamped the country. People then moved to the Maquiadora–sweatshops to survive. The country side is now ruled by drug gangs. Other countries are producing goods in sweatshops for cheaper, thus the influx of Mexican immigrants into the US.
Real estate become available after the people are shooed off their land. It is just an old game of chess to this thing called empire.

These global trade deals are aimed at eliminating any trade barriers like health and safety laws, environmental protections, and worker protections. The bottom line is more money for the global elite. The race to the bottom is in full effect. “Teamsters and turtles” came out to oppose the WTO in 1999. It is very clear that very few people will benefit from these trade deals.

The globalization gangs like WTO and World Bank have had to meet in exclusive remote locations for years now because thousands of people shut them down when they show their scheming faces. How insulting that the global rulers chose Hawai’i Island to meet. Perhaps it has to do with the lack of real education on world matters or the lack of serious journalism to cover the story. Not a mention in the Hawai’i Tribune Herald. Pathetic. keep on goose stepping Tribune herald.

These deals are negotiated in secret. US manufacturing was destroyed by these deals. Little consumed in the US is produced in the US anymore. Rapidly expansive empire is setting itself up for rapid collapse. Just like Rome getting caught in unwinnable wars that gobble lots of resources.

We can pay attention and do our homework or stick our head in the sand (or TV) and just let it happen. To those who offer disparaging remarks about those who oppose this backroom deal, turn off Fox News and think for yourself. Try working in a sweatshop or clearcut logging operation in Indonesia where working conditions will only get worse to create another round of refugees, with special thanks to the reliable trolls who are puppet front of the nationalist/racist/brainless Empire train.

  2. Dear Steve , thank you for commenting and putting yourself out there like that, it helps to show that ignorance is still a major problem, and that because of our lack of education and being totally clueless , we must call people hippies to make us feel better.any smart person can figure out that you are just a shill .
