- SOUTH KOHALA – The Visionary Video crew drove through the South Kohala brushfire today, bringing us this footage which we have edited together with the most recent Hawaii County Civil Defense audio message. The video was taken on Kawaihae Road and the Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway at 2 p.m. Videographer Lynn Beittel says they drove through the fire on Kawaihae Road then turned left on to Queen Kaa’ahumanu, heading for Hapuna Beach. However, the fire had just jumped the highway and was burning on both sides near the phone building. Beittel says they were turned around and detoured through a sub-division to Kohala Mountain Road.
