Billy Kenoi addresses the enthusiastic crowd of faithful supporters shortly after the second printout results, which at the time tallied his lead at nearly 48%.
Reports indicate that Angel Pilago will be Kenoi’s opponent in the mayoral runoff during the general election. Pilago appears to have narrowly defeated Lorraine Inouye for the second place finish.
If Kenoi was able to achieve 51% of the primary vote, he would have been able to skip the general election and claim victory Saturday night.

the Flash Player to see this player. As heavy showers soak the streets of hilo, supporters of mayoral candidate Billy Kenoi are undaunted, as the early numbers suggest victory. Family, friends and campaigners move under the tents outside Kenoi’s Kilauea headquarters to escape the downpour, and continue the party. Although Kenoi was en route from Kona when the rains came, the spirit of the faithful held strong, and erupted in cheer when he finally arrived. |
