This video is merely an introduction to the featured athletes. The men: 2008 champion Chris McCormack, Normann Stadler, Craig Alexander, Marino Vanhoenacker, and Torbjorn Sindballe. The women: 2008 champion Chrissie Wellington, Rebecca Preston, Kate Major, Joanna Lawn, and Rebecca Keat.

The 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship winner, Chris McCormack, speaks at a press conference two days before defending his title at the 2008 event.

In 10+ years as a professional, McCormack has won over 150 major triathlons all over the world. His 2007 Ironman victory was one of the fastest times in the history of the Kona event. In preparation for the 2008 event, McCormack was victorious in Ironman 70.3 Hawaii and the Frankfurter Sparkasse Ironman European Championship.

Admittedly a vocal and opinionated athlete, McCormack appears relaxed here when speaking to the crowd of sporting press.

The 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship winner among female competitors, Chrissie Wellington, takes the mic during the official event press conference.

Wellington’s rise to the top has been fast. She has experienced immediate success in triathlon in 2004, and shocked the world by winning her first full-distance Ironman in 2007 at SCB Ironman Korea. That year she won the first Kona Ironman she ever ran in, making history as the first British athlete to win the title.

Wellington’s popularity in the sport may be attributed as much to her playful, happy demeanor, exhibited in this video, as it is to her talent and promise in the sport.
