During the same inauguration ceremony in Hilo that saw Billy Kenoi officially become the new mayor on the Big Island, the new Hawaii County Council was also sworn into office.

The 9 member council was administered the oath of office by the Honorable Ronald Ibarra, Third District Court judge.

District 3 councilman J Yoshimoto, elected chairman of the Hawaii County Council by his fellow councilmembers, delivered a speech after the oath.

Also sworn in today: District 1 councilman Dominic Yagong, District 2 councilman Donald Ikeda, District 4 councilman Dennis “Fresh” Onishi, District 5 councilwoman Emily Naeole, District 6 councilman Guy Enriques, District 7 councilwoman Brenda Ford, District 8 councilman Kelly Greenwell, and District 9 councilman Pete Hoffmann. Hoffmann is the former chairman of the county council.
