The possibility of a sports bar serving drinks in the small town of Honokaa is creating some controversy amongst residents.

Councilman Dominic Yagong held a talk story on the subject Wednesday night at the Honokaa School Cafeteria.

Residents expressed mixed feelings on the bar coming to the quiet Hamakua coast town

The Hamakua Sports Bar was issued a liquor license on May 7, and will be the town’s only bar.

An appeal to the liquor license decision has been filed by pastor Chuck Dobbs, whose Honokaa United Methodist Church is some 200 feet from the bar.
