Hundreds of students from numerous Big Island high schools and Hawaii Community College gathered at the Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium on Thursday for the Hawaii Construction Career Day, held for the first time outside Oahu.
Kids were able to get a hands on with possible future jobs in the industry.
Mayor Billy Kenoi was also there, signing hardhats for the students.
The state Departments of Transportation and Education co-sponsored the event.
