Reforms to the Hawaii County Code of Ethics failed at the council on Wednesday. Mayor Billy Kenoi’s resolution recieved support from only two council members – Dominic Yagong and Brenda Ford.

The proposal has been bounced back and forth between the council and the ethics board numerous times, but no action has come of it. It died a quiet legislative death on Wednseday, overshadowed by the big ticket topics like Kamakana Villages and the $56 million bond authorization. Discussion on the matter lasted only a short time compared to previous debates.

Those against the specifics of the plan said it was unworkable on the small Big Island, where everyone is practically related to everyone else.
