A 31-year-old Kailua-Kona man died Friday (February 11) from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash on Palani Road .2 miles west of the 37-mile marker in Kailua-Kona.

The victim was identified as Brett H. Seltmann of a Kailua-Kona address.

Responding to a 1:58 p.m. call, Kona patrol officers determined that the victim was operating a 2005 Suzuki 600 GSXR motorcycle and traveling east on Palani Road at a high speed when he lost control, ran off the right side of the road and crashed.

Fire Rescue personnel took him to Kona Community Hospital, where he died at 3:37 p.m.

The victim was wearing a helmet.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved but speed was a factor in this crash.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a coroner’s inquest case and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call Officer Joshua Lewis at 326-4646, extension 229.

This is the fifth traffic fatality on the Big Island this year compared with six at this time last year.
