HILO, Hawaii: University of Hawaii-Hilo officials are celebrating the recent name change for its College of Pharmacy

The accredited institution will now be known as the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy in honor of the late U.S. senator.

The UH Board of Regents approved the renaming in a vote taken last week.

Inouye, who was Hawaii’s U.S. senator and third in the presidential line of succession when he passed away on December 17, 2012, was a strong supporter of the college.

UH-Hilo Chancellor Donald Straney spoke about the honor at an alumni awards function last week.

Right now, university officials hope to secure legislative approval for the the millions in funding needed to build the planned College of Pharmacy building in Hilo. Without the building, the university warns that its Accreditation could be in jeopardy.
