KONA, Hawaii – More fall-out from Tropical Storm Flossie: The Public Safety & Mass Transit Committee meeting that was originally scheduled for Tuesday in Kona was cancelled because of the storm.

The committee was going to make a decision on Bill 79, the GMO prohibition bill that has been making headlines recently.

The committee meeting has been re-scheduled on August 6th, at the Hilo Council Chamber.

The decision making follows two days of extensive public testimony in early July.

July 3, 2013 – GMO hearing packs hundreds in to testify

When the public testimony portion of the meeting was concluded on July 3, Bill 79 was read into the record and the committee began discussion. The Public Safety committee decided to recess until July 30th. Of course, ‎Flossie forced the closure of county offices on July 30th.

Elected officials are reminding the public that there will be no public testimony on August 6th because it is still a recessed meeting from July 3rd and once the committee members begin discussion, no more public testimony is taken.
