HONOKAA, Hawaii – Governor Neil Abercrombie announced on Monday that he is releasing $75,000 for Hale Hoola Hamakua Hospital in Honokaa. The money will go towards the “completion of an energy audit and installation of energy-saving equipment such as variable frequency drives, controlling devices or programs, or modify existing systems.”

The money is part of a $12.9 million release for National Guard, Civil Defense and health facilities on Oahu and Hawaii Island.

Other health facilities getting money: Leahi Hospital, Oahu ($1,000,000) … Maluhia Hospital, Oahu ($650,000) … and Maluhia Hospital, Oahu ($535,000)

Hale Hoola Hamakua Hospital originally opened in 1951 and was formerly known as Honokaa Hospital. It is part of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, which includes Hilo Medical Center and Ka’u Hospital on the Big Island.
