UPDATE – Civil defense reports that telephone service has been restored.
UPDATE – Hawaii County Civil Defense says the phone outage continues for Ka’u and South Kona today. Hawaiian Telcom Company reports that due to a break in the fiber system, telephone services in the Pahala, Naalehu, Ocean View and parts of the South Kona area are currently not available. This same system break is affecting the cellular telephone carriers and service in these areas as well. Civil Defense says Hawaiian Telcom crews have identified the break and are currently working on restoring telephone services as soon as possible.
Hawaii County Police is requesting that residents go to the nearest district station for assistance, since the option to call has been disrupted.
Hawaii County Civil Defense says Hawaiian Telcom reports a break in the telephone system on Hawaii Island.
There is no telephone service in Pahala, Naalehu, Ocean View and parts of Kona.
Crews are currently working on repairs.
