KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii – A high surf warning shut down some West Hawaii beaches on Sunday.

Civil Defense reported that Kahaluu, Laaloa, and Hapuna beaches were all closed due to the big waves.

The video above was posted to YouTube by Kona blogger and vlogger Kauilapele.

Waves were expected to be 10 to 15 feet along west facing shores of the Big Island, according to the National Weather Service.

Surf was forecast to be highest Sunday evening, and gradually diminish through Monday.
