HILO, Hawaii – A resolution appropriating over $6,000 from the District 6 contingency relief fund to the Hawaii Island Veterans Day Parade gave everyone a chance to hear a little about this year’s event.

The Hawaii County Council discussed the measure brought forward by Councilmember Brenda Ford on Tuesday.

Parade co-organizer Wendell Kaehuaea, flanked by founder Dan Kama, filled lawmakers in on the plans for the event to be held November 8th.

This year’s theme for the parade is gonna be female in military and female retired,” Kaehuaea said. “I want to introduce my example – this is my sister back there with the hat on – She’s with the 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles.”

“So, she helped get Hussein out of his palace there…” Kaehuaea joked.

The parade was not held last year due to construction along Kamehameha Avenue. Its the sixth year for the event.
