NANAWALE ESTATES, Hawaii – Governor Neil Abercrombie arrived in the Nanawale Estates subdivision after 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The governor was on the ground in Puna for the first time since the storm hit.

There was something of a media circus following the governor at the community center, but that wasn’t his only stop. The governor joined Major General Darryl Wong and the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency Administrator Doug Mayne on an assessment tour, viewing damaged areas in Puna… visiting families hardest hit by Iselle.

The governor flew from Honolulu to Hilo in one of Hawaii Army National Guard’s Blackhawk Helicopters. Once here, they also toured the wreckage by air.

Abercrombie also met with HELCO president Jay Ignacio. And, the governor sat down with Mayor Billy Kenoi at the Hawaii County Civil Defense E.O.C.
