(Big Island Video News) KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii – A brush fire is being reported in Kona. Below is a blog of updates as they come in, including Hawaii County Civil Defense messages.

4:40 p.m. | Brush Fire Contained

The brush fire in the area of Aloha Kona Drive and Hualalai Road in Kailua-Kona near the Mazda car dealership has been contained. Firefighters are working to extinguish the fire. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.

3:30 p.m. | Runaway Brush Fire reported

Hawaii Couty Civil Defense reported a runaway brush fire in the area of Aloha Kona Drive and Hualalai Road in Kailua-Kona near the Mazda car dealership. The fire was 75% contained as of the civil defense message issued at 3:15 p.m.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area, and no homes were threatened at the time. Emergency personnel are working with the staff at the REgency at Hualalai on the temporary relocation of those clients or tenants who may be sensitive to the smoke conditions. Sources say the fire was about 15 acres in size, initially.
