HILO (BIVN) - The community gathered at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery for the annual Memorial Day ceremony organized by the VFW Post 3830, an event that includes the offering of floral tributes, a funeral volley, and interfaith reflections.

HILO, Hawaii – The annual Memorial Day ceremony was held at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery on Monday.

This year, Anthony Marzi served as the Master of Ceremonies. Marzi had the honor of introducing the different speakers, including Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi, Keoni De La Cruz of the VFW 3830, and keynote speaker LTC Douglass Adams.

The event included interfaith prayers and reflections, wreathe laying and floral tributes. The ceremony ended with a customary funeral volley by the 291st Combat Communications Squadron of the Hawaii Army National Guard, taps by Ray Gandy of VFW Post 3830 and Amazing Grace on the bagpipes by Ray Dustin, VFW Auxillary to Post 3830.

The event was organized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3830 and the Auxillary to Post 3830.
