HONOLII (BIVN) - A dead body was recovered from the ocean nearly three quarters of a mile offshore, fire officials say.

UPDATE (5:40 p.m.) – VIDEO: Hawaii Police Discuss Body Recovered Off Honolii

HONOLI’I, Hawaii – A dead body was retrieved from the ocean off Honolii Beach Park early Tuesday afternoon.

Answering a 1:08 p.m. alarm, rescue crews arrived to find the body floating 0.7 miles offshore, about 15 ft. away from the 13 ft. Boston Whaler operated by the reporting party.

A county rescue boat “located, extricated, and transported” the body to the Wailoa Boat Ramp, where it was turned over to the Hawaii County Police Department.

The body has not been identified.

The situation is under police investigation.
