HAWAIIAN OCEAN VIEW ESTATES, Hawaii – Highway 11 is closed in both directions at the 85 mile marker north of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates due to a traffic accident, emergency officials say.

A civil defense message was issued before 5:30 a.m.

“It is unknown at this time when the highway will reopen,” civil defense reported. “Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes if possible.”

Meanwhile, just before 6 a.m., Hawaii County Police reported the closure of Napo’opo’o Road near Kahau Place in South Kona, due to a down utility pole as a result of a traffic accident.

“This location is about a quarter mile below the Coffe Museum,” police stated in a Nixle alert. “Motorists wanting to get to Hwy 11 or Kealakekua Bay is advised to take Keala O Keawe Road as an alternate route. HELCO crews are responding and the expected closure is at least until noon.”
