HILO, Hawaii – Phil Barnes, the chair of the Hawaii County Democratic Party, shared his thoughts on GOP candidate Donald Trump’s shocking presidential victory Tuesday night.

We caught up with Barnes while he was attending the election night gathering at State Senator Kai Kahele’s campaign headquaters in Hilo. At the time, the results were not official, but the numbers coming in where looking more and more like Trump was going to take the White House.

In the interview, Barnes ponders what a Donald Trump presidency would look like, what it means for Hawaii, and how the divided United States must come together.
