STORY SUMMARY

KEAUKAHA, Hawaii - Recent sewage leaks and high bacteria counts along the Keaukaha shoreline are the topics of discussion at this community meeting Thursday night.

(BIVN) – A meeting of the Keaukaha Action Network was held on Thursday. Organizer by Terri Napeahi said that although there are numerous toxicity issues facing the Keaukaha / Panaewa communities, the gathering focused on sewage issues.

Present for the discussion: Hawaii County Mayor Hary Kim and members of his administration, county councilwoman Sue Lee Loy, and officials from the Hawaii State Department of Health.

Department of Environmental Management Director Bill Kucharski gave a presentation on the Pua Sewage Pump Station, on the heels of a discharge of secondary treated and disinfected wastewater near Puhi Bay.
