HONOMU, Hawaii - The road closure will remain in effect for at least 24 hours due to leaking fuel, police reported this morning.

(BIVN) – Highway 19 remains closed near Honomu due to an earlier, fatal traffic collision involving a fuel truck/tanker, police say.

The road closure will remain in effect for at least 24 hours due to leaking fuel, a Sunday morning update stated.

“Traffic is being re-routed at the Route 19/Honomu junction road and Route 19 Honomu transfer station road. State Highway personnel are stationed at the Honomu road near the olf Kaimungi Store intersection and diverting traffic down the Old Mamalahoa Hwy. State highways personnel are also at the Old Mamalahoa Hwy near the transfer station intersection, diverting traffic back to Route 19,” police reported.
