HILO, Hawaii - The Merrie Monarch Festival headquarters at the Ho'olulu Complex will soon have the the name “Aunty Dottie Thompson Hale”.

Merrie Monarch headquarters in Hilo

(BIVN) – A bill to name the county building used as the Merrie Monarch Festival headquarters in Hilo in honor of the late Aunty Dottie Thompson was advanced by the Hawaii County Council Committee on Public Works and Parks & Recreation on Feb. 6.

Hawai‘i County Council member Sue Lee Loy introduced the bill, giving the building next to the Edith Kanaka‘ole Multi-Purpose Stadium the name “Aunty Dottie Thompson Hale”.

Ilihia Gionson testified on the measure, giving a historical perspective on the Ho’olulu Complex.
