HILO, Hawaii - The Puna patrol officer was honored during the Annual Police Officer and Firefighter of the Year Awards on Monday night.

(BIVN) – Conrad Bidal has been named the Police Officer of the Year by the Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaiʻi.

Bidal was honored during Monday night’s Annual Police Officer and Firefighter of the Year Awards banquet. Also honored was the Firefighter of the Year, Kainoa Willey.

According to a police media release:

Officer Bidal displays outstanding investigative skills in his daily police work, but it was his heroic efforts in a commercial business fire in Puna where he prevented harm to several individuals in the building which could have resulted in tragic results if not for his actions.
