17 People Evacuated From Lanakila Housing Fire

STORY SUMMARY

HILO, Hawaii - All occupants of the 4-plex single story structure escaped, and were accounted for without injuries.

(BIVN) – A fire occurred in a 850 sq. ft single story end unit of a 4-plex structure at Lanakila Housing in Hilo last night, about a half hour before midnight.

According to Hawaiʻi Fire Department:

HFD arrived on scene and found heavy fire showing from one unit of a 4-plex single story structure. All 17 occupants of the structure escaped, and were accounted for without injuries. Fire was extinguished, overhauled, and units were ventilated. Fire was contained to unit of origin.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
