STORY SUMMARY

SOUTH KOHALA, Hawaiʻi - The Hawaiʻi County Department of Water Supply today issued an immediate water conservation request from Puako to Kawaihae until further notice.

(BIVN) – A Water Conservation Notice is in effect for an area of South Kohala.

The affected area is from Puako to Kawaihae, including the Hapuna Beach Resort, Mauna Kea Beach Resort, and Mauna Lani Resort, the Hawaiʻi County Department of Water Supply says.

“Due to unexpected equipment malfunctions, residents and businesses are asked to limit water use to essential needs such as consumption, cooking and sanitation purposes, in order to avoid a water outage,” Water Supply officials said. “Water conservation measures include refraining from car washing, cutting back on irrigation, and using water wisely indoors and outdoors.”

Most of Hawaiʻi Island is currently “Abnormally Dry”, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. The area of South Kohala that is now under a Water Conservation Notice is under a “Moderate Drought”.

Fro more information, the County asks that you please call (808) 961-8050 during normal business hours, (808) 961-8790 for after-hour emergencies, or email: dws@hawaiidws.org.
