Police Investigate Female Body Found In Waipiʻo Valley

HĀMĀKUA, Hawaiʻi - The remains of an apparent woman were found near the water’s edge in an advanced state of decomposition on Sunday, August 30.

(BIVN) – The Hawai‘i Police Department is investigating the death of an unidentified woman whose remains were found along the shoreline of Waipiʻo Valley.

Police say Hāmākua patrol officers found the remains on Sunday, August 30, at 12:35 a.m., after they received a report of a body observed at the shoreline.

The body of an apparent woman was located near the water’s edge in an advanced state of decomposition. Police say the approximate age and race of the female could not be determined due to the decomposition.

Police say they are attempting to positively identify the woman through fingerprint database searches and DNA analysis.

On Tuesday, an autopsy was performed at the Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Police report no suspicious injuries were found, and foul play is not suspected. The official cause and manner of death are pending toxicology results.
