(BIVN) – A Saturday morning motorcycle crash in Hilo left one person dead, police say. The single-vehicle traffic collision occurred early Saturday morning, September 5, in the area of the Kalanianaole Street and Kamehameha Avenue intersection.
From the Hawaiʻi Police Department:
Responding to a 1:46 a.m. call, police determined that a 2015 Harley Davidson Road Glide motorcycle was traveling west on Kalanianaole Street when the operator lost control and veered off the roadway. The motorcycle struck a utility pole and the male operator was ejected from the motorcycle. The male was unresponsive at the scene and was pronounced deceased at 1:54 a.m.
Police say the motorcyclist’s identity is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of the next of kin. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
The investigation has been classified as a coroner’s inquest. Police believe that speed was a factor in the deadly crash.
