Flood Advisory Issued For Areas Of Puna, Kaʻū

HAWAIʻI ISLAND - At 9:47 p.m. HST on Thursday night, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain over the Kaʻū and Puna districts.

(BIVN) – The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for an area of East Hawaiʻi on Thursday evening.

At 9:47 p.m. HST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain over the Kaʻū and Puna districts.

“Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area,” the National Weather Service stated. “Rain was falling at a rate of 0.5 to 1 inch per hour.”

Some locations that may experience flooding include Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Wood Valley, Pāhala, Volcano, Punaluʻu Beach, Kawa Flats, Glenwood, Nāʻālehu, Mountain View and Fern Forest.

The Flood Advisory is set to expire at 12:45 a.m. HST on Friday morning, unless it needs to be extended.
