(BIVN) – Police have identified the female pedestrian who was killed in a recent traffic collision in Hilo.
Police say 71-year-old Pamela Lovett of Pāhoa died following the motor vehicle/pedestrian collision on Thursday evening, October 22, at the intersection of Kanoelehua Avenue and East Kahaopea Street.
Police report that a 2023 Kia four-door sedan was traveling Hilo bound on Kanoelehua Avenue when it struck Lovett. She was initially reported to be crossing the road and was not in a marked crosswalk, police added.
Lovett was found unresponsive at the scene and pronounced deceased at 7:25 p.m.
The driver of the 2023 Kia, a 39-year-old Pāhoa man, was not injured as a result of the collision. Police do not believe that speed and inattention were factors in the crash, although the Area I (East Hawai‘i) Traffic Enforcement Unit is continuing the investigation. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of Lovett’s death.
