(BIVN) – The Hawaiian Electric company gave an power restoration update for Hawaiʻi island on Saturday, ahead of the expected heavy rains from approaching Tropical Storm Moke.
As of 9 a.m. today, about 8,800 customers on the Big Island remain without power, the utility reported.
Hawaiian Electric also provided a new estimated restoration times, presented in this table:
“Estimated restoration times are based on the best information available at the time,” Hawaiian Electric added. “Times may be adjusted due to access issues, additional damage, unsafe conditions, or specialized equipment. The list below focuses on larger or more complex outage areas that are estimated to take longer to fully restore. The purpose of this list is to enable customers to make plans based on estimated restoration times.”
Hawaiian Elecric says keep in mind:
- This list does not represent every community or pocket of customers currently without power on Hawai‘i Island – even if your area isn’t listed here, we’re aware.
- Tropical Storm Moke is forecast to bring heavy rains and wind gusts through the weekend and this will affect the timing of restoration efforts.
- Some locations that experienced little storm damage may still be without power because of damage to lines and facilities that provide electricity to their area. These may be hidden from view or located in distant areas.
