(BIVN) – The Hawaiian Electric company gave a power restoration update for Hawaiʻi island on Sunday, with a new time table for various locations impacted by Hurricane Lala last weekend.
As of Sunday afternoon, about 6,460 customers on Hawaiʻi Island remain without power, the utility reported. Power was restored for approximately 3,200 customers since Saturday morning.
“Crews are continuing restoration work in some of the hardest-hit areas, including additional parts of Kaloko Mauka, Mountain View, Glenwood, Ahualoa and Kaʻū,” Hawaiian Electric reported. Utility personnel are being supported by crews from Southern California Edison through the Western Region Mutual Assistance Group.
“Impacts from Tropical Storm Moke may slow ongoing repair efforts,” Hawaiian Electric warned. “Heavy rain, strong winds, flooding and unsafe conditions could delay work and may cause new outages in areas that currently have power.”
