Solid Waste Fee Increases Proposed, Public Hearings Set

HAWAIʻI ISLAND - The County of Hawaiʻi will host two public hearings on September 16th in Hilo, and September 18th in Kona.

(BIVN) – A proposed increase in solid waste disposal fees in Hawaiʻi County will soon go out to public hearing.

The proposed fee increases are the first since 2024 and “reflects changes in the consumer price index”, County officials say.

The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Environmental Management will host public hearings on the fee increases in Hilo on September 16th, and in Kona on September 18th.

Proposed Fee Changes

West Hawaiʻi Sanitary Landfill

  • Current: $128 per ton.
  • New: $138 per ton.

East Hawaiʻi Regional Sort Station

  • Current: $128 per ton plus $26 per ton Reload Disposal fee for Commercial haulers.
  • New: $138 per ton plus $28 per ton Reload Disposal fee for Commercial haulers.

East and West Hawaiʻi Organics Facility

  • Current: $32 per ton.
  • New: $34.50 per ton.
