The premier of local artist Layne Luna’s feature documentary film, Kiyoshi “Bob” Kubo – Love for Family, Love of Nature, was experienced by a packed house at the University of Hawaii – Hilo auditorium.

The film presents the simple, family oriented lifestyle of Kiyoshi Kubo, Luna’s father in law. It was filmed in Hilo and along the Hamakua Coast, particularly the Hakalau Stream and Bay. In the film, Kubo reveals the art of the old ways, like fishing, tracking and navigating through the native forests.

Luna shot, edited and produced the film. He enlisted the help of local musicians like John Keawe and Brittni Paiva, who also performed the night of the premier.

Luna was also assisted by his wife Jackie, the daughter of Kiyoshi Kubo. She also served as the MC for the movie premier.
