December 1, 2008 – Hilo, Hawaii
Billy Kenoi officially began his role as the mayor of Hawaii’s Big Island today, when he was sworn in today at an inaugural ceremony at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.
The new mayor, the youngest to ever hold the seat in Hawaii County, took the oath administered by the Honorable judge Ronald Ibarra before a large crowd of supporters, citizens and government colleagues.
After the oath, Kenoi gave a speech, focusing on the challenges his administration faces ahead.
Also sworn into new office terms at the inauguration: Hawaii County Prosecuting Attorney Jay Kimura, and the entire nine member County Council.
