NEWS BRIEFS
- The slow moving June 27 lava flow has sparked another brush fire. The 150 acre-fire is moving north-northeast about one mile uplsope on the mauka side of Highway 130. The fire is 1.5 miles south of the Ainaloa subdivision.
- The brush fire is contained in the firebreak area and poses no immediate threat to area residents, civil defense says. The Hawaii County Fire Department is fighting the fire.
- The last brush fire to warrant a civil defense alert was on January 9, although there have been other fires since then. This morning, USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory noted the lava “may have sparked a brush fire captured as rapid northward movement of smoke during the day and glow at night until midnight.”
