HAPUNA – The Hawaiian Homes Commission is meeting in West Hawaii today and tomorrow at the Hāpuna Beach Prince Hotel (May 18 and 19).
The formal meeting takes place at 10 a.m. Monday morning at the Hau & Lehua Conference Rooms. Later that evening, the commission will meet with the West Hawai‘i Homestead Communities starting at 6 p.m. (flyer below). A second formal meeting takes place on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the same location, although the commission will recess at 10 a.m for contested case hearings, which are closed to the public, and will reconvene at noon.
On Monday’s agenda is decision making on approval of the Department of Hawaii Home Lands’ Housing and Land Use “Munition and Explosives of Concern (MEC) Policy” and an informational update on the United States Department of the Interior Proposed Rules 43 C.F.R. parts 47 & 48. On May 8th, DHHL stated it did not yet have an opportunity to fully review the proposed rules and evaluate the potential impacts to the department and its beneficiaries.
We will be discussing this with the Hawaiian Homes Commission and look forward to participating in the rulemaking process to provide our feedback to DOI. We are hopeful that the ultimate outcome is clarity in the relationship between DOI and DHHL.DHHL media release, May 8
On Tuesday, the commission will vote on a few Waimea related planning measures, including a declaration of a Finding of No Significant Impact for Final Environmental Assessment (FEA) for the Waimea Nui Regional Community Development Initiative.

when are they going to give the native Hawaiian’s land?…the M.T.M. protesters speak of the sacred land…they should be given free sacred farm land to raise their own food…then they can be free,of any out side influences…and have the right to pass it on to future generations..to be self sustaining…the native Hawaiian’s have waited long enough for these lands to farm.and work on…give it back to the people…..
Why “native Hawaiian homesteading when there was at least a third of the population that were also citizens of the old Kingdom. Why not go back to everyone being able to homestead government property like it was before 1920.
Today, the homesteading program is almost $100 million dollars in arrears from “native Hawaiians” not paying for homesteads they have received. Why does everything have to be race based with these folks? They already have over 850 race based for Polynesian-Hawaiian programs, illegally race based for Hawaiian only schools, etc., as well as taking part in all the public free stuff.
I for one am tired of hearing that the “poor little Hawaiians can’t make it on their own” and need “special” programs. That’s called “victimization racism”.
The only thing they lack is positive leadership, not victimizing politicians that always claim the the “native Hawaiians” are just one more program away from self sustainability and if they vote for them they will give it to them.
The problem in the past is when a successful Polynesian-Hawaiian speaks of self responsibility they are yelled down by the loudmouths. These “special” programs have kept the Polynesian-Hawaiians down, not lifted them up.
I like Diver Dave, his responses are usually spot on in my book. Race victimization is exactly that, and I’m sad to see certain uninformed, U ambitious persons resorting to that instead of getting educated and raising themselves up !
I mean unambitious
I for one am tired of listening to your racist rants about Hawaiians. Move, if you are so unhappy here.
