LAUPAHOEHOE, Hawaii – The third of four TMT & Maunakea: Common Ground talks was held Tuesday night at the Laupahoehoe Public Charter School cafeteria. The discussions are organized by the Hilo-Hamakua Community Development Corporation in order to “bring more information to the community that it serves (from north of the singing bridge in Hilo to Waipi`o Valley) so that people can make informed decisions about the TMT.”

Hualalai Keohuloa delivered the cultural perspective for the evening. He has been on the mountain, standing with fellow protectors, since the beginning. He spoke a great deal of his connection to the sea, and correlated that connection to the mountain.

The final Common Ground meeting will be Tuesday June 9, again at Laupahoehoe school.

  1. as “informed” as what they will fully DISCLOSE. IF TMT doesn’t reveal all the past failures that have happened on the Mauna, like chopping off 40 feet of the PEAK to build KECK, etc. then NO ONE will be able to make an “informed” decision. NO ONE!

  2. But what decisions specifically? Maybe they just phrased it wrong but it seems to imply that you or I would need to make a decision. TMT doesn’t hinge on any decision of mine, so I don’t know what they’re talking about.
