The Ironman may be many months away, but triathletes are spending time on Hawaii Island nonetheless.

Recently, around 35 triathletes, international media and leading technicians in the sport visited Hawaii Island for the annual Trek/K-Swiss Global Triathlon Camp.

This is the first time that the camp has come to Hawaii, which is earning a reputation as a year-round global triathlon destination.

The team stayed at The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows, and spent their time riding the Ford Ironman World Championships course, and honing their ocean swimming efficiency and running on trails among the lava fields.

The economic impact of major sporting events in Hawaii, including the Ironman World Championship in October, is more than $224 million annually, according to figures released by the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
