HILO, Hawaii – A sudden burst of wild weather is apparently to blame for a roof being blown off a home in Hilo on Monday afternoon.

Fire and utility crews were on the scene at the historic structure on Mililani Street following the incident that may have been connected to a period of heavy rain that came through Hilo.

“Was on my lunch break at S. Tokunagas Store”, wrote Laron Kageyama on Facebook, “when all of a sudden we heard this roaring wind and saw the trees bending like there was a hurricane. Then, we saw what appeared to be iron roofing flying in the air. My friend who entered the store confirmed it was a flying roof!”

“There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home”, joked Kageyama.

No one was reported hurt in the incident.
